Small World was asked to curate a screening programme for KIDS WORLD CINEMA organised by Alliance Française in Washington, USA. The goal of the KIDS WORLD CINEMA festival is to introduce international children’s films to Washingtonians and compare significant cross-cultural differences in this genre. The festival targets six to thirteen- year-olds, and will showcase a diverse selection of the most significant international productions for young audiences.
Featuring the 3 countries from the American continent (the US, Quebec and Brazil), 4 European countries (France, Germany, Spain and the UK), and Australia, Japan and Senegal, this is the third edition of an interactive international children’s films showcase in Washington.
During two weekends in May 2011, ten international organizations will offer screenings followed by children’s workshops and discussions addressing the films’ cultural contexts. Each projection will take place at a separate cultural venue which will be paired with a specific country to expose its audience to different children’s films from around the world.
Ten international organizations will participate, under the leadership of the Alliance Française:
Australia: the Embassy of Australia and the Little Big Shots Film Festival
Brazil: the Embassy of Brazil
France: the Alliance Française de Washington
Germany: the Goethe-Institut
Japan: the Japanese Information and Culture Center of the Embassy of Japan
Québec: the Québec Government Office
Senegal: the Embassy of Senegal
Spain: the Embassy of Spain
United Kingdom: The British Council and the Small World Film Festival
United States: Hillwood Museum Estate and Gardens
